Readee and HOMER
One row per fact. HOMER's column comes from its own pages, each cell dated; where its pages say nothing on a row, the cell says so.
| Readee | HOMER | |
|---|---|---|
| Finds your child's specific gap | Yes. A spoken 10-minute placement, then a written report naming the skills to work on and the first lesson to start. | No placement or diagnostic described on their site. The pathway is set from what the parent enters: "We combine your child's unique interests with their age and current learning level to create a personalized learning journey" (their site, read 22 October 2026). |

Then a 7-day trial of Readee+, no card. | A 30-day free trial, then $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year ("Billed yearly at $59.99"); "No commitment, cancel anytime". Nothing else is described as free (their site, read 22 October 2026). |
| Built by a teacher | Yes. The lessons are written by Jennifer Klingerman, a certified reading specialist who teaches 3rd grade. | "Designed by experts, backed by research, and tested by kids"; no teacher or individual is named. Reading, math, social and emotional learning, thinking skills and creativity, "fueled by activities kids actually want to play" (their site, read 22 October 2026). |

Our take
If your child is already in school and reading is the worry, HOMER sets its pathway from the age and level you type in, while Readee listens to your child read and tells you where the gap is. If you have a two-to-five-year-old and want play across reading, math and feelings on an iPad, HOMER is built for that age and Readee is not.
Who each one suits
HOMER suits a family with a toddler or preschooler who wants play-based early learning across subjects, on an iPad, from a company that has been in the App Store since 2013. Readee suits a family with a child already in school, kindergarten to 4th grade, who wants a reading placement, a parent report and teacher-written reading lessons.
Readee is newer (2026), has a smaller library, covers reading only, has no native app, and allows one child per account.
- learnwithhomer.com/pricing returned a 404 on both days it was tried; the monthly and yearly prices are from the home page, the in-app tiers from the App Store listing.
